Got a 1099 and don’t know what to do? This talk is for you!

Tuesday, December 16, 7pm EST (all time zones welcome) on ZOOM

Join Mary Simpson, a self-proclaimed tax nerd, for a brief talk about taxes: how and why the US tax system prioritizes the ultra-wealthy over working people, along with how to organize your taxes if you are a gig-worker, artist, writer, musician, dancer, freelancer who is new to filing as an independent contractor.

Mary Simpson is a past resident at Interlude: a writer, artist, and activist who has worked as a bookkeeper for 16 years, and a former volunteer of the IRS-certified VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program, helping low-income people file their taxes. Please note: Mary is not a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) but will talk through how to find and work with an accountant.

Follow-up slides and a template for organizing your business expenses will be emailed after the talk. Can’t attend in person? Sign up and a recording will be sent out afterwards.
